So, It appears to me that Bentley has changed it's licensing system from helpful to a scam. About 3 months ago I was contacted by an 'account representative' that told me that I had several occasions where I was over the number of licenses that I had purchased, which wasn't possible.since I am a 5 person firm with only THREE users, and have THREE licenses of Microstation, I was told by this 'Account representative' that I needed to sign up for a different licensing agreement or I would be assigned the more expensive one without it being my choice.

So I did.I agreed to 'Select open access'.this was suppose to be the best solution to me according to this account rep. This week I got a 'WARNING' that I would be recieving a punitive invoice for OVER USE of my agreed license unless I purchased another copy of microstation, and was sent a spreadsheet that showed 4 days over the past 3 months that there were 4 uses of Microstation.the impending invoice is $5000. The best part is that the FORTH license is being reported from a computer that is only used by a remote person to remote desktop into to connect to our server, not a forth employee. I have asked this 'Account representative' to give me his supervisors information and so far he has refused. As has been posted in other threads, the calendar hour time-keeping method has been giving a lot of people grief. To me it really is the source of all of the overuse issues for companies like mine who are more than willing to pay for a set number of licenses which are not overused during any given moment. Bentley needs to change their calendar hour time-keeping method to instantaneous time-keeping so that however many licenses you own (3 in my case) can be used by however many users want to access it (3-at-a-time in my case).

So, if 20 people want to use 1 license in the same calendar hour, they would simply have to use it for an average of 3 minutes each. With an instantaneous time-keeping method in place, there would be no overage!!!

What a concept! Let's keep this thread with respect to only the calendar hour issue.

Please reply accordingly. CALENDAR HOUR TIME-KEEPING NEEDS TO GO! I just received an email ad from Bentley that included the following testimonial: “Our firm is small, and tight budgets are a daily fact of life. Bentley’s new SELECT Open Access subscription allows us to play in the big leagues, paying only for what we need on a per-project basis. No more do we have to do without because we can’t afford to buy the software in one lump sum, much of which we may not need again until the next big project.

Plus, we now have access to top level training and support resources. Try that with ‘those other guys!’ – In a word. Thanks!” I'm wondering what licenses configuration would make the Open Access model beneficial for a small businesses.? The only way that I can see this working is if the employee count and software expertise varies dramatically over time.

Most of the small business that post in this forum are like us, they need a set number of licenses that do not regularly change. Maybe this company's idea of a small business is different than mine. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Is there a small business represented here that is experiencing a benefit with Open Access? I'd be curious to hear your input. Hi, How can I constantly overuse my Select License? (Question 1) How can I be in constant checkout?

The licens manager Utility is activated, and no Check out at all in my side. How can I 'use' my license 0-24 when I am 200 km away from my office?

(This was a sunday, when I was an organiser of a sport event) How does your license registration system is working if I have overuse everyday when I use my SW since 1 Jan 2014 when this OpenAccess madness started? Why I can not get ANY answer about it via service tickets?

When will you solve this constant problem? Thanks for ANY answer. How do I configure a pre-XM product license install (Microstation V8 for example) to point to one of our 22 specific license pools in GATEWAY? We are migrating to using the Bentley Hosted license manager from our locally hosted license manager and need to know how to configure GATEWAY to allow access to all of our 22 license pools. Our current (Microstation) license files look like this: SERVER='server-name' PORT='1000x' (where PORT = one of our license pools).

The GATEWAY doc that I could find in your website explains how to point to GATEWAY, but not a specific license pool. From the doc on the Bentley website:. Change the LIC files used by your V8 2004 or earlier Bentley products to contain a single line:. SERVER=GatewayName. Replace GatewayName with the computer name that is running your SELECTserver Gateway. Recently the activation prompt diplayed when i started Microstation, which typically indicates I hadn't transmitted logs in the last 30 days.

Typically, I can just access the admin site page and take care if this slight issue with little effort. However, this time i receive the error message 'an error has occurred while attempting to verify the server and activation key' when I attempted to activate and when I couldn't access the admin site page either. Nothing has changed lately, so this was surprising. We have a Deployed (local) selectserver Version 08.11.08.25 and i can't acces the admin site page. Please help, thanks.
