People who regularly use the Novell server Gemini for access to the Banner Student Information System may want to use the new Web-based access today, while Gemini is unavailable. Here are instructions, courtesy of of Administrative Information Systems. Hi all, We are ready to do a limited rollout of SCT's 'Internet Native Banner' against our production (PROD) database. Internet Native Banner is now commonly referred to as 'INB' and was formerly known as 'Banner Webforms'. Internet Native Banner allows the user to run Banner online from within a supported web browser.
After the user specifies the appropriate URL within the browser, a java applet loads and then launches Banner forms. For the first-time user of INB, an additional one-time step is required and happens automatically: the download and installation of 'Jinitiator', the Oracle java software environment necessary to run INB. Per SCT, the traditional non-browser implementation of Banner will eventually be phased out because Oracle is dropping support for the older 'client/server' technology. The web-based INB offers a robust, reliable, good-performing and easy-to-deploy alternative. If you are interested, please give INB a try, then send me some feedback about your experience. Include what browser/version you used, any problems experienced, overall impression, and how soon you think we should plan to move UVM Banner users over to this implementation.
Please read the remainder of this message to find out more about: - INB web address - Supported browsers - Installing the jinitiator software - Starting an INB session - Some differences between INB and traditional client/server Banner. MJG INB web address (for testing) - The web address (URL) for running Internet Native Banner against our PROD (production) database is: Supported browsers - Based on information from Oracle and SCT, plus our own limited testing at UVM, we recommend using Internet Explorer versions 5.0, 5.5 or 6.0 with INB. Netscape versions 4.x and 6.2 can also be used, with the following caveats: Netscape 4.x: It is possible that upon first-use of INB, the one-time installation of the Jinitiator software may quietly fail. If this happens, you can download and install the Jinitiator software directly from this URL: or, alternatively, simply use Internet Explorer the first time you run INB (IE will recognize that you need to download jinitiator and will start the download process for you).
Once Jinitiator has been successfully installed, INB can then be run from within the Netscape 4.x Browser. Netscape 6.2: Before Netscape 6.2 can be used with INB, one of the jinitiator files must first be copied (not moved) to the Netscape 'plugins' directory. Paint tool sai cracked download. Here are the particulars: File to copy: NPJinit-11819.dll Copy from: C: Program Files Oracle Jinitiator 1.1.8.19 bin Copy to: C: Program Files Netscape Netscape6 Plugins Once the file is copied, INB should run successfully from within the Netscape 6.2 browser. About Jinitiator - Jinitiator version 1.1.8.19 will be downloaded and installed the first time the user attempts to run INB via the browser. It requires approximately 25MB of free space on the PC's hard drive.

During installation, accept the defaults for all prompts. Following installation, INB will start up automatically for IE users; Netscape users must close and restart Netscape to launch INB. Starting INB - With the Jinitiator software installed, invoking INB via the browser will cause the forms applet to be started.
The message 'Loading Java Applet.' Briefly appears, and is followed by the Forms 'Logon' box. As per usual, fill in the username and password and leave the database prompt blank, then click the 'Connect' button. The SCT logo screen will appear. Hit Enter or click the 'OK' button to dismiss the logo screen and move on to the main menu, where you can begin using Banner just as you would in client/server mode. Some differences between traditional client/server Banner and INB - 1. The vertical toolbar (on the left side of the screen) is not available.

The options menu navigation frame (also on left of screen) is not available. To get to the options menu in INB, use the Banner menu above the toolbar and select 'Options'. Remember: the Options menu is context-sensitive; i.e., it's only enabled for certain forms. The center dividing bar between the left menu folder pane and the right menu contents pane is not resizeable in INB. Some toolbar icons, including the bookshelf icon, can not be customized to launch an external application, and therefore do not function in INB. On the Main Menu, the graphic symbols indicating folders, menus and forms do not display alongside the menu and form names.
